They took possession of their keys on Tuesday: three of the craftsmen and traders who have benefited from boxes within the inter -municipal artisanal village of Deshaies are happy to be able to settle. They occupy a strategic site for promoting the territory, dedicated to tourists, in particular the reception of cruise workers and boaters, many to go through this town, more and more turned towards the sea.
Deshaies, seaside commune of the Sous-le-Vent coast, stopover site of cruise liners and boaters, inaugurated yesterday (Tuesday May 6, 2025) its craft village, on the town front of the town, near the fishing port. A ceremony for handing over the keys and signing of the leases to the assignees of the boxes took place, in the presence of the mayor Jeanny Marc and the president of the Agglomeration Community of North Basse-Terre (CANBT) Guy Losbar.
The village, whose commercial space covers nearly 200 m2is made up of small boxes with a Creole architectural style. He has four 25m boxes2 and a 100m box2 dedicated to the activities of promoting the territory.
The site tends to become an essential place of life and entertainment for economic actors. The latter, in particular the tenants, take responsibility for bringing the premises to life.
My very great satisfaction: beyond the functional aspect, in terms of architecture and arrangement, it was the ideal place. So, now, it will be for craftsmen to give its entire dimension to the craft village and to fulfill our objectives in terms of development.
Guy Losbar, President of the CANBT
Four craftsmen and entrepreneurs, whose profiles were selected following a call for projects, now benefit from brand new and colorful premises ideally placed, on the passage of tourist and local customers.
The first official shop selling products derived from the British television series will soon be installed, a glacier.Murder in paradise“(Tourn à Deshaies), a brand of honey -based culinary creations, in particular.
Happy to receive the keys from a new point of sale, in the town of Deshaies. It is a continuity for us, craftsmen of Guadeloupe, who only work on local fruits. We try to open a room by municipality, to flood the market, with our products.
-Fabien Grapin, manager of the company “Sweet pause”
I’m really very happy. It will be something extraordinary for the evolution of the “Gwadloup apiary”. I will be able to talk about honey, educate everyone about bees and do tastings. It was really something that I expected.
Nathan Jouve, beekeeper in Guadeloupe “The Gwadloup apiary”
A place of reception is specifically provided for visitors from the ocean, who will find information and advice.
Jeanny Marc has always wanted to turn the town towards the sea, aware of the economic opportunities it offers, but also of the need to develop the territory accordingly. Other issues are to be taken into account, as the necessary protection of biodiversity and remarkable natural areas. Thus, elected officials make every effort to keep its authenticity, while welcoming visitors in the best conditions.
The village is an integral part of the port of Deshaies. And, therefore, as it is a reception area, on the sea side, for us it was important that when our visitors arrive at home, that they find a place where they can find things that represent the authenticity of North Basse-Terre.
Jehany Marc, Maire the Denharases
The mayor wanted to specify that this is an inter -municipal village, installed in Deshaies. The project, whose overall cost amounts to 3.4 million euros, was funded by the State (42 %), Europe (39%), la Guadeloupe region (10%) and the CANBT (9%).
