And if some people thought, in recent years in Europe and in the world have reminded us of it ”he continued, during a speech delivered at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe. While the war waged by Russia in Ukraine has stretched for over three years, Emmanuel Macron noted the illusion that was the idea of “Perpetual peace” On the continent, born after the second world conflict.

Emmanuel Macron also recalled that France, after five years of Nazi occupation, had to win among the allies at the winner table 80 years ago, when signing the capitulation of IIIe Reich, in Reims. “We knew that he had a role to play, this country, our old country, in the dialogue of the powers, the balance of the world and the stability of the future. During the ceremony, to which was invited the president of the Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, Emmanuel Macron handed over the insignia of the Knight of the Legion of Honor to Jean Daikhowski, a figure of the resistance which notably participated in the liberation of Paris, after having escaped the Vel’d’Hiv roundup in 1942.
