A man was killed by stabbing this weekend in Albi at the end of a nightclub evening that went wrong. An investigation for “voluntary homicide” is underway and four people were placed in police custody before their possible presentation before an investigating judge in Toulouse.
The murder of a man near an Albigensian nightclub, killed by stabbing on the night of Saturday, May 4, aroused emotion within the episcopal city. Here is what we know at this stage of the investigation.
A brawl to the Cristal disco
The drama occurred at the end of an evening spent at the crystal, a nightclub along Avenue Gambetta, at the entrance to Albi. The victim, who was drunk according to a witness, wanted to fight with one or more customers present in the establishment. First by brandishing an empty bottle of beer and then using a tear gas bomb. A “gas” that pushed several people to get out of the building.
The brawl continued outside, where the victim was continued by his “opponents” of the evening. According to a police source, the man was notably struck with a machete, behind the skull and on a thigh. Albi’s prosecutor Stéphanie Bazart indicated that he presented “at least two stabbing wounds”. The emergency services found it around 3:30 am with “bleeding wounds” at the old railway track, facing the Belin bakery, a few tens of meters from the nightclub.

The victim not yet formally identified
Despite the rescue intervention, he could not be saved. His death was found at 4:15 am by the doctor and an investigation was opened for “voluntary homicide”. In the aftermath of the drama, the man had not yet been formally identified: he had no identity document on him or driving license. Only a car key was found in one of its pockets, that investigators from the Albi and Dipj of Toulouse connected to a car from Tunisia, without allowing an identification. An autopsy must be carried out soon.

A hospitalized suspect
Thanks in particular to the exploitation of video surveillance images, four people aged 18 to 38 were arrested and placed in police custody, due to their supposed participation in the deadly brawl. Among them, a man taken care of at the Albi hospital, who would have been injured during the facts. Several police officers were spotted this late morning on Monday in front of the hospital center.

At the end of their police custody, the individuals accused could be presented to the Criminal Pole of Toulouse, which recovered the file in view of the criminal nature of the facts, for a possible indicted by an investigating judge.
