COMMUNITY. The Drummond Wind Rose still floats on a cloud, following the eighth edition of the mega sale of used books, held last weekend. Once again, the pulled profits strike a record.
Organized by the bookstore turns the page, the event raised more than $ 44,000 for the Drummondvillois organization.
“It’s a gift from the sky. For us, it is an amount that is really extraordinary. He can help us go directly to children and women victims of domestic violence, “exclaimed the general co -director, Édith Doucet, in a telephone interview with L’Express, Monday morning.
The event brought together citizens of all ages, full of books, board games, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. The items were sold between $ 2 and $ 4, for the benefit of the help and accommodation house.
The population answered the call from the opening on Saturday morning. “There were a line of a hundred people waiting outside,” says Édith Doucet.
In addition, the wind rose held an information kiosk during the event. “There are people who came to see us to discuss domestic violence, to learn about our services. We offered promotional objects that could be put back or sell. People were very kind to us, ”she rejoices.
Concretely, the amount raised will support victims in various ways. “Often, this is money that we use to pay tuition fees for young people or daycare and day care. It will also be for lock changes. Also, the first grocery store is very expensive for a woman who moves to a new accommodation. Often we will help them with this money to pay the first grocery store. There are pharmacy invoices for medicines. “
This is the contribution of the most important environment annually for the wind rose.
According to Edith Doucet, the success of the event is based, among other things, on the mobilization of the community, including that of the owner of the Isabelle Aubin bookstore. “She does immense volunteer work. Throughout the year, she collects all donations from the population and sorts out all books. Each item that was on the table at the end of the week has passed in the hands of Isabelle. The quality of the books we put made a difference, ”she says, also welcoming the volunteer helping.
It is confirmed. The mega sale of used books will be back next year. The collaboration between the bookstore and the organization continues, to the delight of Edith Doucet.
“As of now, people can bring books or other to the bookstore for the sale next year.”
Recall that last year, the seventh edition of the sale allowed the rose of the winds to receive an amount of $ 42,140.
