At the top of Salève, a brand new liner to admire Geneva

Le Salève had the funny idea of pushing into France. Never mind, in a very un-‘Grand Geneva’ spirit, the Genevans have always considered it to be their mountain. This statement will make the Valaisans laugh for obvious reasons, and the French cringe. The latter have recently put a lot of resources and care into renovating the cable car which leads to the summit of Salève, at a height of 1097 metres, where stands the high station built by Maurice Braillard in 1932, one of the architects whose name has gone beyond the borders of the canton of Geneva. After extensive work, the monument is once again open to the public. Guided tour with Claudia and David Devaux, the Parisian architects who rehabilitated the place. The first is a specialist in 20th century heritage, particularly the Bauhaus. The second involves the transformation of historical monuments such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

At the arrival of the cable car, a room with a triple function – shop, exhibition, refreshment bar – has been created, with a huge bay window overlooking Lake Geneva. — © Manuel Bougot
