Step 1: Who is this, Squeezie?

Squeezie is a French YouTuber. He has long been THE most followed Frenchman on the platform. Today, he has almost 19 million subscribers. That’s more than twice the population of Quebec!

He mainly publishes humorous and entertaining content. He has never spoken out in favor or against a political party… Until last Friday.

Stage 2: tense French elections

There will be legislative elections this summer in France, on June 30 and July 7. This means that new deputies will be elected.

At the moment, it is the Renaissance party, that of President Emmanuel Macron, which is in power. But recently, a rival party, the National Rally, has been gaining popularity among the French. This party has just obtained the most votes in another election, that of the European Parliament. This scares several people, including Squeezie.

Step 3: what is the National Rally?

The National Rally (RN) is a French right-wing political party. Many describe it as a far-right party. This means that he defends very conservative values. In the case of the RN, this means, among other things, that it has already voted against policies that help and protect immigrants or people from the LGBTQ+ community.

The RN is led by Jordan Bardella, who is very present on social networks and who has greatly rejuvenated the party’s image. The party (which was previously called the National Front) was created in 1972. It was never elected. But this summer, he is closer than ever to coming to power.

Step 4: Squeezie’s Letter

Far-right parties are increasingly popular in other European countries, such as Austria, Italy, Spain and Germany.

This rise of the far right scares many people. All over Europe, there were demonstrations to denounce it. It even touches… Squeezie! For the first time in his career, he spoke out on politics.

On June 14, the YouTuber wrote a long message on Instagram to share his fears. Here are two extracts from his publication entitled “Open letter to all the young people who follow me”:

• “I am mobilizing today against the extreme right and their ideas.”
• “Keep in mind that voting for a party that advocates hatred, discrimination, and fear of others has never been a solution, and never will be.”

He ended his letter by asking his subscribers to be well informed about the RN and to vote in the next elections.

Step 5: What Now?

The president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, responded to Squeezie’s letter. He wrote that he was entitled to his opinion. He also said his party would help the French have more money in their pockets, notably by lowering gas bills. He also said that the RN defended French values ​​and that it would fight against youth delinquency.

But he also made fun of Squeezie, reminding him that another YouTuber, Tibo InShape, now has more subscribers than him.
