He already knows how the “house” works practically by heart. Guillaume Abdi was, and still remains for a few weeks, a sculpture teacher at this venerable School of Fine Arts.

In office since August, he finds “staff members” and became aware “issues and wishes of the community”. “I applied because the job description did not mention management of the visual arts hall Le Miroir. Temporally, it is difficult to assume the dual function. The formula worked because Jean-Luc Dorchies [en poste désormais à Saint-Savin] led the project from the beginning. His workload was colossal. But, from now on, we could offer a short-term exhibition at the Miroir. »

Exhibitions and conferences

Guillaume Abdi, 49, will therefore concentrate on the running of the school 100% as soon as another sculpture teacher is recruited. “I aim to work on a strong axis, relying on what is produced by amateurs. » In other words, the new director wants to work as a team to plan exhibition times outside the Buxerolles site (the school provides its courses in the former Jules-Verne college).

“The idea would be to offer turnkey exhibitions to irrigate the territory; in town halls, health establishments, neighborhood centers or socio-cultural centers. » As part of these multidisciplinary themed exhibitions which will not require security, Guillaume Abdi wishes to launch conferences with professional historians.

The other major project which is on the roadmap of the new director will be the relocation of the school. “On Rue Jean-Alexandre, we only occupy 10% of the space. The remaining 90% is used by the European School of Image. » The mobility project is currently being considered since it will require a building spacious enough to accommodate eleven teachers (40 lessons per week), ten administrative and technical staff, between 500 and 550 students for weekly lessons and 1,300 students in school for whom a team travels to establishments.
