following new accusations against him, Kevin Spacey gives his first interview in 7 years

The actor reacted to a new documentary against him, broadcast on May 6 and 7 on the British channel Channel 4, in which 10 new complainants speak against him. Accusations that pushed him to break his silence.

The exclusive interview lasts almost an hour and thirty-eight minutes. For the first time in seven years, Kevin Spacey has decided to deny the new accusations against him in a filmed interview. Indeed, on May 6 and 7, the British channel Channel 4 will broadcast a new documentary called Spacey Unmasked, which gives voice to 10 new men accusing the actor of sexual assault. While the latter was twice exonerated by the courts, in the United States and in England, this testimony could relaunch the case. “I take full responsibility for my past behavior and actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who made things up about me or exaggerated stories about me “, he declared to journalist Dan Wootton, formerly of the GB News channel. The interview was broadcast in its entirety on X two days before the documentary against him was broadcast.

In the first minutes of this face-to-face, Kevin Spacey first assures that the upcoming documentary is one-sided. The actor thus explains that the production did not give him time to respond and give him a voice in the face of these new complainants. “Over the past week I have repeatedly requested that @Channel4 be given some time to respond to the allegations made against me…Channel 4 has refused, believing that asking for a response in 7 days to new anonymous and non-specific allegations constituted a “fair opportunity” for me to refute them,” he protested. Kevin Spacey thus denounced the “baseless” attacks made in this film. “I have nothing more to hide,” he said in his black suit and behind thick glasses.

Sexual blackmail

Accused, in particular, of having used intimidation, false promises and blackmail to have sexual relations with young aspiring actors, the latter defended himself, explaining that he had, certainly, intimate relations with men, but always agreed. And to qualify: “I have had relationships with men who thought they would advance their careers by having a relationship with me. But I never told anyone that I would help them in their career in exchange for sexual favors. However, he admits that he may have made “awkward advances” to some and apologized for it. “Have I ever had a relationship with another actor? Yes. Did I make awkward advances toward someone who ultimately wasn’t interested? Yes,” he said. For the rest, the actor twice Oscar winner for his roles in American Beauty And Usual Suspects once again assured that these were always “consensual” relationships.

Contacted by the BBC following this interview, the fallen actor’s lawyers issued a statement to explain the latter’s actions. The missive insists that Spacey had “no choice but to make his own public response” to defend himself from these false allegations, some of which date back nearly 50 years. As reported by Variety, which was able to preview the documentary, the testimonies are explosive. One of the new plaintiffs, named Daniel, said in particular that he had the impression of being faced with “a soulless monster”. Another man, who was 16 or 17 at the time of the events, recounts an episode where Kevin Spacey “grabbed his genitals” before begging him not to talk about it.

Before that, Kevin Spacey had been accused by several men, including Anthony Rapp who had filed a complaint in 2020 for facts dating back to 1986. After two years of legal battle, the American was finally dismissed by a civil court new yorker, while demanding 40 million dollars (41 million euros) in damages from the actor. In July 2023, the latter will win his second trial, this time in London. He was found not guilty against three British plaintiffs.
