The video has gone around the world in recent hours. We can see – at least this is how the images were presented on social networks – Robert De Niro insulting anti-Israel demonstrators, in a street in New York.
Except that it’s completely false: the American actor was actually rehearsing a scene during the filming of a series intended for Netflix! De Niro’s spokesperson, Stan Rosenfield, wanted to clarify things. And to denounce this manipulation.
“Reports indicating that Robert De Niro was shouting at a group of anti-Israel protesters are false. The lines were completely written,” he said in a statement published in the American press.
In these images that went viral, Robert De Niro blurted out, shouting: “It’s not a film, it’s reality! It’s dangerous and they said they were going to do it again.” The video was immediately diverted to social networks, where it was widely commented on.
“The video is a short excerpt from a rehearsal of a scene from the Netflix series “Zero Day” which was filmed on April 27 in New York, adds Stan Rosenfield. De Niro’s character confronts a group, all paid extras. Someone copied the video and twisted it to give it another meaning which is completely false.”
In this new series, Robert de Niro plays a former president of the United States forced to come out of retirement to participate in a commission of inquiry into a cyberattack. Also in the cast are Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Joan Allen, Matthew Modine and Angela Bassett.
