“It makes me very sad”: Daniel Radcliffe explains that he no longer has contact with JK Rowling, accused of transphobia

Relationships that are no longer in good shape. If Daniel Radcliffe knows that he owes a lot to JK Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, he deplores her positions considered transphobic which have continued to create controversy in recent years.

In an interview with the American magazine The Atlantic, the Harry Potter interpreter explains that he has no longer had contact with the author since the controversial tweets she published in June 2020.

As a reminder, she shared an article referring to “people who have their periods”, commenting ironically: “I’m sure we had to have a word for these people. Someone help me. Fire? Fam? Feemm? “. A comment that went down badly in the eyes of some Internet users, who reminded him that transgender men could have their periods. Since then, she has made many tendentious comments regarding the transgender community.

Although he recognizes that he owes a lot to JK Rowling, he does not intend to change his mind. “Harry Potter wouldn’t have existed without her, so it’s likely that nothing that’s happened to me in life would have happened the way it did without her.” But that doesn’t mean you owe your beliefs to someone for your whole life,” he said.

She doesn’t want to “forgive”

A bit nostalgic, he regrets the turn of events. “It makes me very sad. I think about the person I met, the times we shared, the books she wrote, the world she created, and it all seems so deeply empathetic to me. »

On the other hand, there is no question of regretting his immediate position following these comments. “I was working with the Trevor Project (association for the defense of members of the LGBT community) for 12 years. Not to react would have been immense cowardice,” he underlines.

JK Rowling was very harsh towards the interpreter of Harry Potter and Emma Watson, accusing them of having taken a stand in favor of trans people. Since then, she seems to harbor a stubborn grudge against them, so much so that when an Internet user informed her that the two actors owed her “an apology,” she responded that she “did not want to forgive,” notes HuffPost. .
