On April 24, Véronique Sanson will celebrate her 74th birthday. The singer agreed to look back on her very long artistic career for an interview with our colleagues from Match. And in all frankness, she assures us: she cannot do without her audience and the stage. During this interview, she also returned to her private life, notably her marriage to Stephen Stills, from 1973 to 1980.

It is with him that she will have a son, named Chris. Thus, her child has dual French-American nationality. A question that he doesn’t really like: “That’s a very French thought, that. An American would never feel guilty about making a living with his songs (…) Why would that be a problem? I was born into a bourgeois family, where I learned that having money was good but that what matters is living with what you have.” she confides, like a clarification.

“And you know, for me, the main thing is to have a roof and water. The rest…”. Values ​​that she passed on to her son, Chris? “It’s more complicated for him,” she explains. “He is Franco-American, I raised him between two cultures”, precise Véronique Sanson.

Additionally, Chris Stills’ grandparents played a big role in his upbringing. “They passed on our typically French values ​​to him. They were very cultured, very curious people”. And Véronique Sanson always knew that her son was going to become a musician. “I put him on the piano around 3 or 4 years old, like my father had with me. I saw immediately that he had a particular sense of music, he had an ear”she confides, very proud.
