Prince Harry cuts ties with the United Kingdom

Prince Harry’s exile is official: he has officially renounced British residency. The Duke of Sussex recently updated documents registered at Companies House, the English equivalent of the commercial register. In this form from his company Travalyst, William’s brother designates the United States as his main country of residence. A first since his resounding departure from London in January 2020.

What tipped off the British tabloids was the fact that Prince Harry apparently chose to backdate this major change, indicating the date June 29, 2023. However, it is precisely this day- where King Charles III asked the Sussexes to return the keys to Frogmore Cottage, the home Queen Elizabeth II had given them on their wedding. A decision which would have deeply pained Harry, according to a specialist in the royal family.

“Charles and William knew it had to be done to highlight the fact that Harry and Meghan were no longer part of the core royal family. But (Harry) probably thought he could keep a base here. There, he shows that he has come to terms with the idea that his life is in the United States,” Phil Dampier explains to the “Sun”. Earlier this year, the Duke of Sussex said he had “thought about” applying for American citizenship, a choice that would force him to give up his royal titles.

On Monday, British justice inflicted a new snub on Harry, who demanded systematic police protection during his visits to the United Kingdom. She in fact rejected his appeal and ordered him to pay almost all of the legal costs in this case. “The UK is at the heart of my children’s heritage and it’s a place I want them to feel at home. (…) This cannot happen if it is not possible to ensure their safety when they are on British soil,” the prince argued in a written statement read before a London court.

The heir to the throne resumed his public activities on Thursday, his first official outing since the announcement of his wife Kate’s cancer. The Prince of Wales arrived in the middle of the day at Surplus for Supper, an association for redistributing surplus food, located in Surrey. He is then expected at a youth center in the British capital which regularly receives deliveries from the association.
