The United States has ceased to issue passports with the genre “X” for people identifying themselves as non-binary, in application of a decree taken by President Donald Trump from the first day of his mandate, announced the department state.

“The State Department no longer issues an American passport with the mention X,” a spokesperson for American diplomacy told AFP.
The processing of passport requests with this mention was therefore suspended, said the spokesman on Friday.
“Directives concerning passports with mention of sex X previously issued are to come” and will be published on the website of the State Department, he added.
Donald Trump signed, on Monday, his inauguration day, a decree ordering his administration to “recognize” the existence of only “two sexes” defined at birth.
“From today, the official policy of the United States government will be that there are only two sexes, male and female,” the republican president announced during his inauguration in Washington.
-The decree, which wants to “restore biological truth”, also plans that “federal funds should not be used to promote gender ideology”.
Among the determined measures is the abolition of the genre “X” for people recognizing themselves as non -binary, “on official government documents, including passports and visas, [qui] will faithfully reflect sex “by birth, said an official of the new administration.
The possibility of obtaining such a document had been opened under the Democratic predecessor of Donald Trump, Joe Biden.
The first American passport with genre “X” had been issued in October 2021 by the State Department, which had specified that the “X” box was reserved for “non -binary people, intersex” and more broadly those who do not recognize themselves in the genre criteria offered until then.
During his campaign, Donald Trump promised to end the “transgender delirium” in the United States.
He also announced that he would order all federal agencies to stop supporting gender transitional hormonal care, also committing to prohibiting transgender women from participating in women’s sports competitions. This ban is already in force in colleges and high schools of about half of the US states.
