An American mother allegedly left her 11-year-old son handcuffed to an oil tank in the basement before going to work for several hours.
Chazzity Candelario was arrested on January 13 at her home in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the Lebanon County Regional Police Department said in a statement.
The 33-year-old woman allegedly handcuffed her son in the basement during his day and evening shifts. She also allegedly locked him in a small closet for hours, she revealed to local police.
The suspect justified herself by saying that she was having difficulty controlling her child while she was working, according to the New York Post.
Authorities went to her home on January 11 after receiving a call about a boy tied to her bed. When they found him, the child said he was trapped in the basement initially, before freeing himself, according to television station WGAL. He eventually tied himself to the bed by accident.
-“This is abuse,” Lebanon County Prosecutor Pier Hess Graf told Fox News. Leaving your child from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., chained, handcuffed, it’s absolutely horrible.”
Ms. Candelario faces several counts of endangering the welfare of the child and false imprisonment. She is currently in custody at the Lebanon County Jail.
