In the middle of a storm: 201 Boeing passengers forced to evacuate by sliding on the tarmac

No less than 201 passengers from a plane scheduled to take off from Atlanta on Friday morning had to be evacuated in the middle of a snowstorm by sliding, via the aircraft’s emergency exits, injuring four individuals in the process.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our employees and customers, and we apologize to our customers for their experience,” Delta airline said in a statement, according to ABC News on Friday.

In the morning, Flight 2668 was scheduled to depart from the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for Minneapolis-Saint-Paul, Minnesota, when the crew allegedly suddenly asked the 201 passengers on board to ‘Evacuate the emergency cabin.

In images shared on different social networks, we can see passengers still on the wing of the plane, while others run in the snow to get away from the plane, in the middle of a storm.

According to the airline, this is an “indication of an engine problem” which would have forced the evacuation of this Boeing 757-300 via the emergency slides, continued the American media.

In the process, four people suffered minor injuries, including one who was transported to a local hospital, we can read.

The 201 passengers and seven crew members were taken from the tarmac to the terminal, at the same time as several flights were delayed due to “continuing bad weather” at the airport, which had not seen as much snow for the past seven years, according to ABC News.

In total, around 5 centimeters had accumulated on the ground around midday Friday.

“We are focused on helping our customers and getting them to their destinations as safely and quickly as possible,” the airline concluded.
