The Caliph Thierno Madani Tall went to Nioro du Sahel, this Saturday, January 11, 2025, to express his moral support to the family of Thierno Amadou Hady Tall. This visit comes in a tense climate, marked by the worrying announcement of the presumed death of the religious guide, kidnapped on December 26, 2024.
During this visit, the Caliph made a point of recalling the importance of unity and cohesion within the Malian Muslim community. “In the face of ordeal, we must demonstrate patience and solidarity,” he said. He also urged the faithful to strengthen their faith and continue to pray for the return of Caliph Amadou Hady Tall.
This approach comes a few days after the broadcast of an audio recording attributed to Amadou Kouffa, head of Katiba Macina and number two of the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb Islamic (AQIM). In this recording not broadcast by traditional JNIM channels, Kouffa announces the death of Thierno Amadou Hady Tall, accused by the jihadist group of collaborating with the Malian authorities and their international allies.
The family of Thierno Hady Tall also called for caution in the face of Amadou Kouffa’s allegations and asking for prayers for the release of their relative.
Thierno Madani Tall who is based in Senegal and Thierno Amadou Hady Tall are first cousins, both direct descendants of Cheikhou Oumar Tall, a major historical figure of Islam in West Africa. Nioro of the Sahel, where this visit took place, remains a stronghold of the Omarian brotherhood, influential in the region.
The kidnapping of Thierno Amadou Hady Tall and the jihadist leader’s statement on his fate are causing great concern among the population. The Malian authorities, who have not yet officially communicated on this matter, are expected to clarify the situation.
Despite the prevailing tension, the Muslim community continues to rally around its spiritual leaders, praying for peace and a resolution to this crisis.
