The man recognized that it was his ex-girlfriend, with whom he had a “physical and verbal” altercation the same day.
This is a particularly tragic story. On the evening of December 31, Utah police were conducting a roadblock and decided to stop a man whose driving suggested he was drunk. The man parked at the gas station where the officers were, who immediately spotted a woman in the back seat. The latter was dead and presented “significant injuries and trauma consistent with homicide”.
According to KUTV, Jacob Holt Johnson, 40, told police it was his ex-girlfriend, Summer Tatiana Roney, 30. The man said they had lived together in Herriman, near Salt Lake City, but that “their relationship was over” and that they had argued verbally and then physically on the day of the young woman's death. Jacob also admitted that the latter had “suffered physical trauma” without agreeing to say more.

“Dynamic, kind and loving”
In a statement sent to ABC4, Summer Tatiana Roney's loved ones described her as “a dynamic, kind and loving soul” and said they were “heartbroken by her tragic and untimely loss.” The family had gathered for the last time a few days before the tragedy, for Christmas. “This senseless act has left an incompressible void in our hearts,” they insist, while Jacob Holt Johnson has been placed in pre-trial detention and will be tried for “first degree murder”. His criminal record already includes several mentions for aggravated theft, burglary, drunken driving and even drug use.
