Brazilian authorities now play a key role in the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, which occurred last week in Kazakhstan and which killed 38 people. The black boxes of the device, manufactured by Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, are currently being analyzed at the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.

The aim is to clarify the circumstances of the accident and examine suspicions that the plane could have been shot down by Russian air defense fire. In a statement, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) indicated that “the extraction, acquisition and validation of the data contained in the recorders will take place as soon as possible.” The black boxes arrived this week in Brasilia, where work is already underway.

International experts on site

International experts from Kazakhstan, Russia and Azerbaijan are participating in the analysis, highlighting the scope of cooperation to shed light on this tragedy. The Cenipa has cutting-edge technology, including 3D virtual reality, allowing a detailed reconstruction of the flight, with precise information on trajectory, speed and altitude.

“At the end of the analysis, the data will be handed over to the Aviation Accident Investigation Authority of Kazakhstan,” recalled the FAB, insisting on the fact that “all the conclusions which will be published in the final report of this investigation is the exclusive responsibility of the Kazakh authorities.

Still many questions

Meanwhile, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) called on Sunday for a “thorough, impartial and transparent” investigation. These statements echo the international attention focused on the case, while Brazilian authorities focus on their technical role.
