The National Fisheries Office (ONP) reported that coastal and artisanal fishing landings at ports located in the Mediterranean reached 13,461 tonnes (T) at the end of last November, down 17% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In its latest report on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco, the ONP specifies that in value, these landings are up 9% to more than 608.83 million dirhams (MDH) during the first eleven month of 2024, compared to the same period a year previously (559.86 MDH).
By species, the quantities of pelagic fish landed in these ports, located on the coast from Tangier to Saïdia, fell by 31% at the end of last November to 5,083 T, for an estimated value of more than 125.13 MDH (-13% ), compared to more than 143.77 MDH / 7,384 T at the end of November 2023.
Landings of white fish reached 2,288 T at the end of last November (-14%), for a value of more than 94.33 MDH (-4%), compared to around 98.21 MDH / 2,652 T in year-on-year.
Concerning the landings of cephalopods, they recorded an increase of 22% to 4,730 T for revenues of more than 301.46 MDH (+28%), while for crustaceans, landings increased by 12% to 1,293 T, generating revenues of MAD 87.80 million (+16%).
As for shellfish landings, they fell by 99% to 9 tonnes for revenues of 63,000 dirhams, compared to more than 7.30 MDH/1,041 T a year earlier, while for seaweed, landings increased to 59 tonnes, against 1 ton.
At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 1,233,568 tonnes at the end of November 2024, down 1% compared to the same period a year earlier. In value, these landings recorded an increase of 6% to nearly 10 billion dirhams.
