The victims are businessman Luiz Claudio Salgueiro Galeazzi, originally from the state of Sao Paulo (south), and nine of his relatives who were traveling with him, civil police confirmed to AFP.

“Unfortunately, initial information indicates that none of the occupants of the plane survived,” state governor Eduardo Leite said on his X account.

At least fifteen people were taken to hospital, most of them for inhaling smoke from the fire caused by the accident, which was brought under control by firefighters.
Gramado is a popular tourist town in Brazil, with an influx of visitors around Christmas time. The plane took off from Canela, another tourist destination in Rio Grande do Sul.

On his X account, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his “solidarity with the families of the victims who perished in the plane crash.” “I hope the injured will recover quickly,” he added.
Last August, Brazil experienced its worst air tragedy in 17 years, when a twin-engine plane with 62 passengers on board crashed in a residential area of Vinhedo, Sao Paulo, leaving no survivors.
The Gramado tragedy is the second serious accident in the country over the weekend, after 41 people died in a bus accident in Minas Gerais (southeast) on Saturday.
