The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to promoting national talent and leadership in international forums.

In the year 2024, Morocco has marked a decisive turning point on the international scene. All candidates proposed by the kingdom for positions in international and regional organizations were elected. A feat which reveals not only the extent of its growing influence, but also the effectiveness of a meticulously orchestrated diplomatic strategy.

With 67 successful applications in more than 30 international and regional organizations, Morocco has consolidated its position as a key player in various strategic areas. These victories are the result of an intensive diplomatic campaign, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by multiple national institutions.

The kingdom has focused its efforts on a wide range of sectors – security, human rights, economic development, culture and sports – working to shape global policies and propose solutions to international challenges.

On the security front, Morocco assumed the position of vice-president for Africa within the Interpol Executive Committee for the first time. This election reaffirms the country’s role in the fight against transnational crime and marks an important milestone with the organization of the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol in Marrakech in 2025.

In the field of human rights, Morocco has recorded historic breakthroughs. For the first time, one of its candidates was elected to the presidency of the UN Human Rights Council. In addition, the country strengthened its presence within the UN system by being re-elected to the Human Rights Committee for the 2025-2028 mandate.

Morocco’s efforts were also illustrated by the reappointment of a diplomat to the Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture and by an election to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Leadership in disarmament

Morocco was chosen to chair the 6th Conference on the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. An election which illustrates its growing role in promoting peace and regional stability.

Economically, Morocco has established itself as a major player with its election to the presidency of the Board of Directors of the World Food Program. This position allows it to actively contribute to the fight against food insecurity and the sustainable management of water resources on a global scale.

On the cultural side, Rabat has been designated World Book Capital for 2026, reinforcing Morocco’s status as a cultural center of excellence. Furthermore, several Moroccan cities, such as Benguerir and Essaouira, have obtained the prestigious “Learning Cities” label from UNESCO, recognizing their commitment to education and lifelong learning.

Morocco has also shone in the sporting field. The election of its candidate for vice-president of the International Olympic Committee highlights its growing role in defining the future of world sport.
