During the consultative meeting between the Libyan House of Representatives and the Council of State, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, recalled the Kingdom’s principles in the face of the Libyan crisis. Stressing the importance of national sovereignty, he insisted on the need to guarantee a “Libyan-Libyan” solution, without foreign interference.

“We underline the firm positions of the Kingdom of Morocco with regard to the Libyan crisis, insisting on non-interference and respect for the choices of the Libyan people,” insisted Mr. Bourita. According to him, supporting the measures taken by Libyan institutions constitutes the most effective path to achieving lasting stability.

Referring to the Skhirat political agreement, signed in 2015 under Moroccan auspices, the minister recalled that this spirit remains an essential reference to guide current consultations between the Libyan parties. “The Libyan people have demonstrated their ability to make important decisions when the national interest takes precedence,” he added, calling for national unity to prevail in the face of external interference.

Mr. Bourita also criticized the strong presence of Arab issues (80%) in the agenda of the UN Security Council, believing that this situation reflects the extent of foreign interference in Arab affairs. “It is not logical to resolve the problems of Arab countries in international frameworks or outside our Arab neighborhood,” he stressed, reaffirming Morocco’s position on the Libyan crisis.

The head of Moroccan diplomacy also insisted on the importance of preserving the unity and sovereignty of Libya, while reiterating Morocco’s sincere commitment to supporting this country in the search for a lasting solution. “The Libyan dialogue can only be fruitful in the absence of foreign interference,” he concluded, reaffirming the Kingdom’s desire to contribute to a lasting and equitable settlement of this complex crisis.
