The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus, demanded an end to Israeli operations in Syria and an end to Israel’s aggressive behavior in this region. This statement was made during a meeting in Ankara with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
Meeting Ms. Gafarova for one-on-one and delegation discussions, the two officials then held a joint press conference. Kurtulmus stressed the urgency of putting an end to conflicts in the region, placing particular emphasis on “the genocides and massacres perpetrated by Israel in Gaza” over the past year and a half.
“It is imperative that operations extending beyond Gaza, including in Lebanon and more recently Syria, cease immediately,” Mr. Kurtulmus said. According to him, Israel’s aggressive behavior must stop in these territories.
Numan Kurtulmus mentioned that trials against Benyamin Netanyahu and his government are expected by world public opinion before international judicial bodies, with the hope of quickly establishing peace in Gaza.
He added that it is essential “to stop this aggression by Israel and launch a new era of peace, protecting the rights of the Palestinians” and ensuring urgent humanitarian aid to Palestine.
The Turkish leader proposed measures for lasting peace in the region, such as increased cooperation, humanitarian development and solidarity. According to him, protecting Syrian sovereignty is crucial to forming a free Syria, free of terrorist organizations and integrating all parties concerned.
