The directors unanimously approved the proposal, emphasizing the importance for the Bank to maintain its strong presence in Abidjan and to invest in a working environment favorable to the well-being of its staff.

The Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank Group have approved the Bank’s management proposal for the construction of a modern, state-of-the-art building to house its head office in Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast.

The directors unanimously approved the proposal, emphasizing the importance for the Bank of maintaining its strong presence in Abidjan and investing in a working environment favorable to the well-being of its staff, reports a press release sent to APA.

According to the document, the President of the African Development Bank Group and Chairman of the Boards of Directors, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina, welcomed the decision of the Boards of Directors, describing it as “historic for Bank staff, for the Bank itself, for Côte d’Ivoire and for Africa, because it sends a clear message that the African Development Bank, as Africa’s leading financial institution, deserves a seat worthy of its worldwide reputation.»

It marks the realization of a vision that I had when I was elected president in 2015, that of providing the Bank with a headquarters worthy of its rank in Abidjan. The new headquarters will also have modern facilities dedicated to welcoming and interacting with shareholders and stakeholders, in a working environment reflecting the Bank’s commitment to green growth, energy efficiency and security.

The senior member of the boards of directors of the Bank Group, Mr. Adama Koné, the director representing Côte d’Ivoire on the boards of directors, presented to Mr. Adesina the land title of the site issued by the government .

Mr. Adesina expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara and the Ivorian government for their strong support to the Bank, stressing that “The decision taken today by our boards of directors shows the lasting anchoring of the Bank in Côte d’Ivoire, our home, today and tomorrow.
