Just before Christmas: The madness of pranking elves invades Luxembourg

Just before Christmas, it became a real trend on social networks. The prankster elves show off all the colors to children all over the world. In Luxembourg too, stupidities and jokes multiply in the four corners of the country.

Originally from Ell, in the west of the Grand Duchy, Léo, 5 years old, told us how he lives with the little elves. “One time they came into our kitchen and put lots of stickers on the cabinets. And sometimes they even come into my room. They also made a mess in the fridge by eating our yogurts. My little two-year-old brother, Tom, also enjoys it a lot.”

Mother of two children, Julie has a blast every year. “I find it so fun to see them wake up with the prankster elves,” she explains to us. “It especially motivates them to get up and get out of bed. And they are always very happy to discover all this.”

As tradition now dictates, the arrival of the pranking elves occurs on the night of November 30 to December 1, so you have to hold on and have ideas until Christmas. “I prepare everything during the month of November with a list for each day so I don’t forget anything,” emphasizes Julie. “I buy the necessary equipment and every evening, I prepare everything for the next day. It’s real preparation work and when the children get up too early, you have to find a diversion. They haven’t surprised me yet, but almost, so I quickly turn off the light.

For Leo, every morning, a new surprise awaits him. “The two elves, mom explained to me, were called Elfie and Slip,” he explains. “During the day, they sleep in their little box and then they wake up during the night. I don’t know if it’s Santa who gives them ideas for doing new things every day. Once, the elves put a lot of cocoa in the toilet and I remember that. Another time, Spider-Man came to capture them in a spider’s web and they were caught by superheroes.

“The inspiration came to me from social networks, and now, little by little, I see all my friends getting into it,” smiles Julie. “Every morning, I watch their stories and it makes me laugh a lot. We challenge each other and it’s really fun. We try to be creative and do better every time. The best reward is seeing the children looking for the elves and running everywhere.”
