Tunisia has always been a meeting place and a refuge. However, today, this country of fraternity seems to be losing its bearings in the face of the pressure of multiple crises: geopolitical, economic, climatic and social.
We, #Peoples_of_the_South, face the most perverse forms of domination. Our regimes, often complicit, participate in the spoliation of our resources, the sell-off of our common goods, the impoverishment of productive systems and the maintenance of systems of domination, unequal exchange and the wars which ravage our lands.
These historical injustices, combined with the global crises of capitalism and the climate, accentuate the suffering of populations. Deportations, forced displacement and immigration to the North are only the direct consequences of these destructive systems. These migrations, perceived as a threat by the powers of the North, are only an act of survival and freedom of oppressed peoples.
The sovereignty of peoples, inseparable from their freedom, is today violated by these oppressive systems. Regaining this sovereignty means not only defending our rights to dispose of our territories, but also protecting our fundamental values of solidarity and hospitality which make up our common humanity.
Faced with this, courageous Tunisian citizens have chosen solidarity, refusing indifference. But today, their commitment is repressed. These arrests are not only intended to punish individuals, but also to break any dynamic of solidarity towards precarious populations on the move.
We call on the people of Africa, the Mediterranean and around the world to mobilize on this symbolic day to demand:
- The immediate and unconditional release of imprisoned activists;
- Recognition and protection of the rights of migrants;
- The defense of the sovereignty of peoples, an essential condition for guaranteeing their freedom and dignity;
- A common struggle against systems of domination and exploitation, whether economic, environmental or political.
Together, let us affirm our refusal of injustice and our attachment to human dignity. Let us make our voices heard so that solidarity, a universal value, is protected and not repressed.
