Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent surgery on Monday October 9 for an “intracranial hemorrhage”.
The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, was operated on this Monday for an “intracranial hemorrhage” in São Paulo, the Sírio-Libanês hospital announced this Tuesday, December 10 in a press release relayed on the social networks of the head of the State.
The president, elected again in 2022 after first taking power from 2003 to 2011, was admitted to hospital after feeling a headache. His intracranial hemorrhage is believed to be due to the fall he suffered on October 19. The condition of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79, is presented as “stable”. However, he remains under surveillance in an intensive care bed.
The head of state, who is serving his third term, underwent a craniotomy, a surgical procedure during which part of the skull is temporarily removed to allow access to the brain. This operation “took place without complications,” the hospital said.
“A domestic accident”
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was the victim of a “domestic accident” last October, resulting in a “blunt injury to the occipital region”, to the back of the head, according to a hospital press release published at that time after a first admission.
According to the Brazilian press, President Lula had an accident in the bathroom, while he was sitting on a bench and making final preparations for his trip to Russia. He fell backwards and hit his head. He was forced to cancel this trip to Kazan for the BRICS summit, which he had followed by videoconference, on medical recommendations.
