The sentence has been handed down: Sarah Boone, accused of having killed her partner by leaving him locked in a suitcase, was sentenced this Monday to life in prison in Florida (United States). This 47-year-old American woman was found guilty of second-degree murder last October, reports CNN.

The facts date back to February 2020. One evening, the couple drank alcohol and played games. The idea then came to fit the whole thing into a suitcase, which the victim did. The forty-year-old closed the suitcase then filmed herself, making fun of her locked-in companion while he asked to go out.

She wanted to teach him a lesson

On the video made by the accused, we even hear the 42-year-old man saying several times that he cannot breathe. But the forty-year-old went to bed, leaving her companion locked in the suitcase. When she woke up, she found him unconscious and called for help.

At the hearing, the accused claimed that her partner mistreated and regularly abused her, and that she suffered from “battered woman syndrome”. “I forgive myself for falling in love with a monster,” she said. To justify her actions, she explained that she just wanted to teach her partner a lesson so that he becomes “a better person”.

The victim's relatives said they were satisfied with the verdict on Monday. For her part, the forty-year-old tried to challenge her conviction at the beginning of November by questioning certain procedural elements, but the court rejected her request. She was incarcerated.
