Death Valley (Death Valley), in California, is likely to see its mercury reach a temperature of 54°C, which could be the highest temperature ever recorded in history.

A record soon to be broken in Death Valley?

It may never have been so hot in Death Valley. The maximum temperature expected for July 6 and 7 is 54 °C. This temperature is dangerously close to the current record, which is 54.4 °C.

If the mercury reaches the predicted temperature, it will be just a few tenths of a degree away from breaking the record for the highest temperature ever recorded in history: 54.4 °C.*

Let us recall that this absolute record of 54.4 °C has already been reached twice: on August 16, 2020 and July 9, 2021. Never two without three? This is what we will see over the next week.

As the name suggests, temperatures are already extremely hot in Death Valley. This will continue to increase over the next few days and we will have to stay tuned to see if the record will be reached or not.

Extreme heat for 75 million Americans

The culprit behind this possible record and extreme heat is a powerful heat dome that will hang over the western United States. This dome will settle in late this week and remain in place until early next week.

Right now, the Gulf of Mexico is experiencing extreme heat. Several states on or near the Gulf of Mexico are directly threatened by this heat wave. However, by Friday, this ridge is expected to recede and give way to less oppressive temperatures.
