Voters in the Denain constituency in the North voted overwhelmingly for the National Rally, sparking mixed reactions among residents. While the RN won 58% of the vote, some expressed support while others expressed concern about the political and social future of the region.

Voters in the Denain constituency in northern France showed overwhelming support for the National Rally in the recent elections. With 58% of the vote, Sébastien Chenu, the RN candidate, won a landslide victory. These results represent a significant shift in this historically left-wing constituency, which has gone from a communist MP, to a socialist MP, and finally to an RN MP over the past two years.

This RN victory is part of a broader context, where a veritable electoral tsunami swept through the Nord department with 35% of the vote, allowing five other RN candidates to directly win the first round.

Faced with this result, residents seem to share mixed feelings. Some express their resignation in the face of a predictable political change, as one resident points out: “Macron made so many promises to the French. And they were so disappointed that they now say why not try the RN? It’s the only party that has never been tried.”.

However, others express concern about the political and social future of the region, as another citizen points out: “Have we forgotten our history? Have we forgotten that it’s always cycles and that this cycle is indeed likely to lead us to something that the French won’t like at all?”

Finally, the precarious economic situation of the region is also at the heart of concerns, with one resident highlighting the ambient poverty: “This is the life of the poor here. So, something has to be done.”.

These reactions reflect a certain resignation, a concern about the political and socio-economic future of the region, but also a call for action to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of Denain and its surroundings.
