This month of June when Emmanuel Macron sank

To fully understand the tragedy unfolding in France, we must go back a few days before the announcement of the dissolution of June 9. On Omaha Beach, on the occasion of the commemorations of the Normandy landings, Emmanuel Macron gave a magnificent speech on June 6. In front of Joe Biden, Olaf Scholz, Volodymyr Zelensky, a host of heads of state and a large number of centenarian survivors of the war against Nazism, the French president praised those who had died for freedom.

As throughout the campaign for the European elections, he posed as a bulwark and heir to the fight against fascism and its “culture of hate”. He asked the French to be worthy of those who had landed “in the face of the questioning of everything they had fought for”. The reference to the rise of the National Rally in the polls was clear. “When amnesia lurks, when consciences fall asleep”, it is the momentum of the Liberation fighters that was to carry the French of today.
