While waiting for the high-altitude clash between Liverpool and Real Madrid, two matches served as appetizers this Wednesday in prime time access. Stuttgart, second in the Bundesliga last season, was traveling to Serbia to challenge Red Star Belgrade. A trap match which got the better of the Germans, future opponents of PSG and literally crushed (5-1). However, it was they who opened the scoring through the former Sochalian Ermedin Demerovic (5th, 0-1), author of a beautiful volley on a delivery from the French hopeful international Enzo Millot. A few minutes later, another former resident of the French championships came into the spotlight: Silas. Loaned by… Stuttgart, the Congolese international adjusted Nübel with a right-footed shot (12th, 1-1). At the half-hour mark, the scenario of the match offered us another nice little story as Rade Krunic responded to his teammate Demirovic, also scoring with a volley (2-1, 31st). This same Demirovic who had been denied a goal a few seconds earlier, again on a serve from Millot, for offside.

But upon returning from the locker room, the Serbs, lifted by the atmosphere at the Stadion Rajko Mitic, turned the match to their advantage. Ivanic scored from a corner (65th, 3-1), when former Marseillais Nemanja Radonjic brought the score to 4 on his first ball, and after a lightning counterattack (69th, 4-1). He even scored a double after a balancing act in the German box (88th, 5-1). By creating a sensation, Red Star Belgrade climbs to 31st place in the ranking, while Stuttgart is 27th. Finally, in the other meeting of the evening, Girona was beaten by Sturm Graz (1-0), who had not pocketed a single point before this evening. The Catalans can particularly tear their hair out after Martin's failure of the week, less than two meters from the empty goal in the first half. The only goal of this meeting was the work of young Mika Biereth, a 21-year-old Danish striker sold by Arsenal this summer. A success which allows Sturm Graz (29th) to record its first success of the season in C1, and to overtake Girona (30th) on goal difference.
