NATO Assembly in Montreal: a festival of hypocrisy that will not contribute to peace

The great Western whine opens its doors from November 22 to 25 with the 70e annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

On the menu, you guessed it, Ukraine and several other points of supreme hypocrisy, including that of “human security, in particular the protection of civilians and cultural heritage in times of conflict”.

I put quotation marks because I am quoting their good intentions verbatim.

You will have understood that when they talk about the protection of civilians, they are not referring to the 43,665 Palestinians, including more than 14,100 children, and the 3,500 Lebanese, including more than 200 children, killed.

And, for the sake of cultural heritage protection, this does not include the Lebanese UNESCO World Heritage sites of Baalbeck and Tyre.

And this, despite repeated calls from the UN for a ceasefire!

Why this double standard? The protection of their darling child, Israel.

An obsolete military institution

Since the existence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the world has not been more peaceful.

Logically, how can a military institution contribute to peace?

She only exists if her world is threatened. And, why not stoke the fire so that it always stays intense.

This is also what Biden did by authorizing Zelensky to use long-range missiles on Russian territory at the risk of triggering a third world war. You know, this outgoing president who told Trump he wanted a smooth handover!

Fueling the fire is what NATO has been doing since its creation by expanding the number of member states and multiplying its military bases.

And Russia?

The first item on the agenda for this assembly, which will be held in Montreal, is, unsurprisingly, Ukraine.

With Donald Trump in the White House, the situation changes, since his claim is to resolve this war in 24 hours. This is one of his electoral commitments.

However, he can expect a revolt, strong opposition from other NATO members who want the war to continue.

The tone is set on their website. They reaffirm their support for Ukraine “until the country’s victory, no matter how long it takes.”

We can bet that our national Trudeau will kiss Zelenski in addition to giving him our money again. He’s already blown us 10 billion!

I doubt Trump will open his coffers.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this big charade.

Perhaps, with a little luck, this relic of World War II will be transformed into a real alliance for peace, including Russia.

Putin has never hidden his interest in joining NATO and Trump could make that possible. No more chicanery!

Russia could even be a link between Europe and Asia.
