Satellite dishes are reportedly used for espionage from the Russian Federation’s permanent mission to the United Nations. In total, seven large devices are installed on roofs, reveals an RTS investigation. According to a secret service expert, these devices “are used to spy on electronic communications, but also on satellite communications.”

According to the Cantonal Territorial Department (DT), the Russian Mission submitted an authorization request for a satellite dish in 2006. However, by analyzing satellite images, Radio Télévision Suisse Romande observed that four other antennas have been installed since then. and would “very likely be illegal”. Questioned by RTS, the Russian embassy firmly denies spying and denounces “an additional attempt to arbitrarily demonize Russia and the Russians”.

The DT will ask the Swiss Mission to the UN to contact the Russian Mission to invite it to “give its position” regarding these installations.
