A shooting at a grocery store in the state of Arkansas, in the southern United States, left 3 people dead and at least 11 injured on Friday morning.

The perpetrator of the shooting was arrested and taken into custody. It would be Travis Eugene Posey, 44, from New Edinburg, Arkansas.

At least two police officers were slightly injured in the incident. The perpetrator will be charged with three counts of murder, punishable by death.

Images captured by video surveillance show a man in a parking lot armed with a hunting rifle exchanging fire with police officers.

“The situation is secure and under control. There is no active threat to the community,” Arkansas Department of Public Safety Chief Mike Hagar said during a press briefing.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she had been informed “of the tragic shooting” and was in “constant contact” with police.

“I am grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those who were impacted by this horrific incident,” she wrote in a post on the X platform.

Hundreds of similar gun incidents have taken place in schools and public places in the United States, a country which has seen several shootings in stores in recent years, including the attack at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, in 2019, which claimed the lives of 23 people.
