Following the 49th Palika congress on November 9 and 10 in Kaala-Gomen, a meeting was organized this Friday, November 15 at the movement's premises in Nouméa. The Kanak Liberation Party confirmed its distancing itself from the FLNKS, Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front.
“The Palika is not summoned to the next congress of Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front” (FLNKS)announced the political party during its press conference on Friday, November 15. Judicaël Selefen, spokesperson for Palika, clarifies the party's positions.“We are withdrawing and we will not participate in FLNKS organizations as long as our decisions do not correspond to the positions that the party has taken.”
“We are entering a new cycle, with a timetable that must be established together, with the State and local partners”declares Palika in a press release.
The Palika is aimed at the New Caledonian people. Shared sovereignty in the Republic is not far from the party's position.
The Kanak Liberation Party
The Kanak Liberation Party “two big projects” starting this month, until November 2025. The “crisis exit plan” from the government of New Caledonia in order to “configure a new societal model”, as well as “negotiations and discussions for the institutional future of the country” in particular on “accession to independence”, “sharing skills” with the aim of “prepare a referendum and management arrangements”says Charles Washetine, spokesperson for Palika.
“The Kanak people, because they are the colonized people of this country, must be at the heart of the fight for their sovereignty”he continues. “To cultivate this feeling of belonging, there is reason to fight against social inequalities. This is what we remember from the events of May 13. Despite the measures taken within the framework of the Matignon agreements, some of the population remains marginalized.”
We must work to consolidate the Caledonian citizenship which constituted the Nouméa agreement. It's the spine.
Charles Washetine, porte-parole du Palika
The next general meeting will take place on January 25, 2025, at Houaïlou.
