Online sales of emergency contraceptives, such as the morning after pill Plan B, have “exploded” since Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election last Wednesday.
At least that’s what CNN reported on Wednesday.
Faced with a possible restriction of access to emergency contraception with the future administration of Donald Trump, women were worried and had reservations, confirmed the CEO of the sexual and reproductive telehealth company Wisp, Monica Cepak.
Indeed, online sales of emergency contraceptives at Wisp increased by approximately 1,000% in a single day, after the election of Donald Trump, Ms. Cepak confirmed to CNN.
“We are seeing women stocking up on emergency contraceptive pills,” Cepak said. “We recently launched multipacks of Plan B, which largely explains the increase in orders we have seen. Approximately 90% of emergency contraception orders are multipacks.»
Since Trump’s election, sales of morning-after pills have consistently increased across multiple sites, said Winx Health co-founder Cynthia Plotch.
At Winx Health, sales increased by 315% the day after the presidential election.
The company has also confirmed that seven times more doses were sold on this date than during the entire previous week.
It also found that 966% more morning-after pills were sold on Friday, compared to the three days before the election.
“So women don’t buy just one product. They stock up to have some on hand for themselves, for their friends, for their sisters,” she said.
