18-year-old worker dies fighting wildfires in New York state parks

A young employee, aged 18, lost his life Saturday fighting flames that affected New York State parks.

According to information from NBC News, Daniel Vasquez died while trying to help authorities fight the fires ravaging US state parks.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of one of the New York State Parks employees who was fighting a wildfire. My prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” New York State Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

New York State Police have opened an investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the death of the 18-year-old young man.

Wildfires continue to wreak havoc in the northeastern United States, particularly in New Jersey and Massachusetts, according to NBC News.

Nearly 11 million Americans were still affected Sunday by wildfire warnings in several cities, including Boston and Hartford.
