Tense atmosphere between FJA farmers and David Clarinval: “This did not reassure everyone”

Around thirty farmers demonstrated their dissatisfaction on Saturday afternoon in front of the municipal administration of Bièvre, where the federal Minister of Agriculture and impeded mayor of Bièvre, David Clarinval (MR), was present. This demonstration was a continuation of the actions already carried out by the Federation of Young Farmers (FJA), during the night from Friday to Saturday, on Walloon roads.

A delegation of around twenty farmers from the FJA was in Bièvre this Saturday afternoon to meet the Federal Minister of Agriculture, David Clarinval, also impeded mayor of this commune. This one-hour face-to-face meeting, which ended around 3:10 p.m., aimed to alert the authorities to the urgency of the situation and to remind people that the promises made during previous mobilizations have not been kept.

At the same time, around thirty farmers expressed their dissatisfaction to the municipal administration of Bièvre.

According to our information, the atmosphere is rather tense. The farmers are really angry. The minister tried to calm the situation by committing to asking the government for help to finance vaccines against blue tongue disease which has a strong impact on breeders. For the farmers present on site, this is insufficient. They are asking for more support. For them, the agricultural sector should be completely reorganized.

Before the meeting, the federation warned: “Without a rapid response from political decision-makers, actions on the ground will be inevitable“. Now, farmers are promising even tougher actions than those of 11 months ago if nothing changes.

He answered a bunch of questions, reviews and testimonials from farmers. He committed to trying to find a federal budget for vaccination against blue tongue, but, for the rest, he clarified that certain demands did not fall within his competence and recalled that the government was currently in current affairs. This did not reassure everyone“, reports Florian Poncelet, president of the FJA.

He specifies that since the actions carried out by farmers almost a year ago, various advances have taken place. “We notice it at the union level, but it is not happening fast enough for our liking. These advances are not yet felt within farms.
