“Banking data, password and pin code are not affected,” tries to reassure the brand, which notified the attack to the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CNIL).

The black streak of cyberattacks continues. After the Free operator and the Boulanger brand, it is Auchan’s turn to be hit by computer hackers. In an email sent to its customers this Tuesday morning, the northern distributor explains that this cyberattack “resulted in unauthorized access to part of personal data” associated with their loyalty account. Among the information stolen are surnames, first names, email and postal addresses, telephone numbers, family composition if provided, date of birth, loyalty card number and amount of the prize pool.

“Banking data, password and pin code are not affected”tries to reassure the brand, which notified the cyberattack to the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CNIL). In total, more than 500,000 customers are affected by these data leaks, according to a spokesperson for the group to AFP. So that they do not lose the amounts raised on their loyalty card, Auchan emphasizes having “strengthened controls in the event of withdrawal”. The brand calls on its customers to “the greatest vigilance regarding the risk of fraudulent emails, SMS or calls”.

“Do not click on any links”

By cross-referencing information from several data leaks, hackers have the opportunity to contact victims and try to extract money from them. “If you receive a message, do not click on any links, do not call the number provided, or ignore the information it contains as it is likely a phishing message”warns the Auchan email sent to its customers.

For Benoit Grünemwald, cyber expert at ESET, the trivialization of data leaks must not “induce a relaxation of vigilance and perception of the usefulness of cybersecurity” for the French. “Companies invest to protect their digital assets, certainly sometimes insufficiently, but the task is arduous. To support them, the European legislative apparatus aims to harmonize and increase the resilience objectives of our societies.underlines the specialist. “At an economic and social level, a loss of interest, already insufficiently high, would lead to an increase in data breaches as well as an erosion of digital trust in stakeholders”warns Benoit Grünemwald.
