A month ago, Ivory Coast suspended purchases and exports of raw cashew nuts for exporters to ensure supplies to local factories (Read: Ivory Coast suspends raw cashew exports). A measure, which does not seem to have met the expectations of the millers (Read: In Ivory Coast, local cashew processors still need nuts), and which has been partially lifted since today (June 10) according to ours dated June 7 from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production. Partial lifting because it only concerns stocks held by exporters, a list of which is provided in the appendix.

Production decline in 2024

The world’s leading producer of cashew nuts with around 40% of global supply, Côte d’Ivoire will see its production decline in 2024 to 1 million tonnes (Mt), compared to 1.225 Mt in 2023, the Ivory Coast said last week. general director of the Cashew Cotton Council, Adama Coulibaly. A poor performance due to unfavorable weather conditions, production having been forecast at 1.25 Mt.

The director also specified that the local processing rate of cashew nuts into almonds stood at 21% (265,863 tonnes) in 2023 with around thirty industrial units with a total capacity of 350,000 tonnes.
