Far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Fratelli d’Italia party clearly won the European elections in Italy. After counting almost all the ballots, his party obtained 28.9% of the votes, which places it far ahead of the others.

In second place, we find the Left Alliance led by the social-democratic party Partito Democratico with 24.5%.

Turnout fell below 50% for the first time in a national election, standing at around 49.7%. The country has 47 million voters.

Italy, a founding member of the European Union, is represented in the European Parliament by 76 deputies. It was the last of the 27 EU member states to close its polling stations on Sunday evening. Voting was possible there until 11:00 p.m.
