INTERNATIONAL – Dozens of people missing. A week after the terrible floods which left at least 219 dead, the Spanish authorities in the Valencia region gave for the first time this Tuesday, November 5, a number of missing people.

“The joint offices of the scientific police and security forces count 89 cases of missing persons”indicated the High Court of Justice on X. Among them are two Chinese, two Romanians, an Ecuadorian and three British.

Active searches are underway to try to find them. 62 bodies were also found but still unidentified. The courts have also authorized the delivery of “ nearly fifty bodies” of the deceased to their families, the Valencia Superior Court of Justice had previously specified.

No casualties in the parking lots for the moment

A week after the disaster, electricity was restored on Tuesday in “98% of households” et « 68 % » damaged telephone lines were repaired, according to the executive. In addition, 40 kilometers of roads and 74 kilometers of railways were repaired.

On the ground, the situation nevertheless remains very complicated, particularly in Paiporta, a town of 25,000 inhabitants in the suburbs of Valencia, considered the epicenter of the tragedy, with more than 70 victims. On Tuesday, drinking water returned but the streets were still clogged with vehicles.

“We are better, but we are not well”summarized Mayor Maribel Albalat on the public channel TVE. “ We need machines, we need professionals who come and clean the streets, empty them”she implored. Authorities continue to inspect underground parking lots, many of which have been completely flooded. Contrary to false information that has been circulating, no victims have yet been found in the parking lots.
