Atlético Madrid announced on Friday that it had banned nine supporters for life.
These fans are sanctioned for violent and racist acts committed at the end of September and the beginning of October, notably during the derby against Real.
During the La Liga match between the two big rival clubs from the Spanish capital, at Atlético’s Metropolitano Stadium on September 29, projectiles were thrown from one of the stands where the Colchoneros supporters were.
One of the people involved was banned for life by the club, which had the stand concerned closed for three matches.
A few days later, on October 2, during Atlético’s trip to Benfica in the Champions League, gestures considered by UEFA as “racist and discriminatory” were observed, which this time earned the club a fine Madrid, which at the same time opened an internal investigation in order to identify the “people involved in these events”.
This led to the announcement on Friday of “a procedure for the definitive expulsion of nine subscribed supporters (socios) for very serious acts contravening the club’s internal regulations”, explained Atlético Madrid on its website.
