The American presidential election is fast approaching. But beyond the battle between Harris and Trump, another rages. The one between Tim Walz and JD Vance. The two running mates dream of the vice-presidency of the United States.
Tim Walz, the Democrat. JD Vance, the Republican. Two completely opposite personalities.
Walz
On the one hand, an experienced 60-year-old politician. Tim Walz made his name as governor of Minnesota, a largely rural state. He is characterized by his outspokenness with statements like: “Let’s be clear, when we talk about freedom, we are talking about our freedom, not that imposed by a politician.“
The man has many assets. Member of the National Guard for many years, former teacher and charismatic football coach, his personality attracts sympathy.

Vance
Conversely, James David Vance, 40, is ambitious. A graduate of Yale, he launched into venture capital and became famous by writing about his youth, in Ohio, in a mistreated white America.
“When Trump became president in 2016, he more or less called him America’s Hitler, he said the worst things about him. But after that, he turned around and now he actually defends political ideas that are rather extreme.“, says the specialist.
The Republican senator positions himself as the spearhead of an extreme right, without constraint. While Tim Walz defends a progressive America and free access to abortion.
Who to take the lead?
“There was a debate between the two running mates and there, we still saw that Vance was a little better because he is someone extremely intelligent“, comments Serge Jaumain, specialist in the United States.
To François Van Der Mensbrugghe to add: “Vance has a political project which is really thought out, which is mature, which is in some way very very dangerous in my opinion.“
The Republican defends the 2025 project which notably provides for the dismantling of the Ministry of Education. Tim Walz defends a peaceful world and calls Trump and Vance weird, like curious beasts.
