At a time when digital technology is permeating every aspect of our daily lives, it is paradoxical to note that our electoral processes remain largely traditional. The adoption of electronic voting, coupled with advances in artificial intelligence (AI), could constitute a decisive turning point for revitalizing democracy and responding to contemporary challenges, particularly for the diaspora.

First of all, one of the main advantages of electronic voting is its potential to reduce abstention, a growing problem in our democracies. In , for example, the abstention rate during the last legislative elections reached an alarming level. In every election, millions of citizens do not vote, often due to lack of time or logistical constraints. For members of the diaspora, these obstacles are more pronounced. Electronic voting, accessible via a computer or smartphone, could allow everyone to express themselves, wherever they are. In particular, this solution would appeal to younger generations, very comfortable with digital technologies, but often absent from the polls. By making voting more accessible, we could reconnect citizens, whether they live in the country or abroad.

However, concerns around the security of electronic voting are legitimate. Many fear that digital systems are not safe from fraud or manipulation. However, technological advances, particularly in the field of AI, can guarantee a level of security. AI algorithms can detect anomalies in voter behavior and prevent fraud.

Using sophisticated encryption protocols and blockchain technology, the confidentiality and integrity of votes can be ensured. In addition, vote traceability strengthens the transparency of the process, an essential element in regaining the trust of citizens, including those abroad who often feel disconnected from national politics.

In addition, the effectiveness of electronic voting also constitutes a strong argument. Traditional elections generate considerable costs: printing ballots, setting up polling stations, manual counting. By opting for an electronic system, these expenses could be drastically reduced. Additionally, results could be announced almost immediately after polls close, providing valuable responsiveness and eliminating human errors often associated with counting. In a world where information circulates at high speed, this speed would be an undeniable asset.

In short, electronic voting associated with artificial intelligence is not a simple technological tool because it represents a real opportunity to modernize our democratic institutions.
