“As long as we all love each other, there is no problem”

Ryuta Watanabe, a 36-year-old Japanese man, has set himself a somewhat unusual goal: to become the father of 54 children to surpass the national record. So far he has ten, but he says he’s well on his way to accomplishing his goal thanks to his four wives and two girlfriends.

Unemployed for ten years, Ryuta depends on the income of his companions to live. Every month, more than 5,500 euros are spent just on feeding his family. In exchange, he takes on the role of master of the house: cooking, cleaning and caring for the children. He currently lives under the same roof as three of his wives, the fourth recently decided to leave home. He also dates two other women outside his household.

“I love my women”

On a Japanese show, Ryuta said, “I love my women. As long as we all love each other, there is no problem.” He claims to have more than 28 sexual encounters a week and says his partners are never jealous and get along well with each other.

Ryuta’s desire to have 54 children doesn’t come out of nowhere. He wants to break the record set by Tokugawa Ienari, a 19th-century Japanese military leader, who had 53 children with 27 different partners. “I want to make history,” says Ryuta, adding that he is always looking for new brides to achieve his goal.

On social networks, the Japanese way of life arouses strong reactions. Some fear that his lifestyle will have a negative impact on the development and education of his children.
