(Keystone-ATS) The death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar marks “the beginning of the end” of the war waged for more than a year in Gaza, the Israeli Prime Minister announced on the night of Thursday to Friday. The war was launched in response to the October 7, 2023 attack in Israel.

“Yahya Sinouar is dead. He was killed in Rafah” by the Israeli army, underlined Benjamin Netanyahu in a video message in English, adding: “This does not mean the end of the war in Gaza, but the beginning of the end”.

Yahya Sinouar is considered by Israel to be the mastermind of the attack carried out by the Palestinian movement on October 7, 2023 on Israeli soil.

It is “an important step” in the decline of Hamas, Mr. Netanyahu declared earlier in the evening. “The evil has taken a severe blow, but the task before us is not yet finished,” he added.

Army Chief of Staff General Herzi Halevi said the war “will not end” until all the perpetrators of October 7 are captured and “all the hostages” held at Gaza.
