The Turkish Defense Ministry announced the neutralization of fourteen PKK terrorists in northern Iraq. According to the information provided, nine of them were neutralized in the Gara region, while five others were neutralized in the Hakurk region.
The ministry’s press release specifies: “The airstrikes carried out on October 9 and 11 in northern Iraq made it possible, according to a preliminary assessment, to neutralize 14 PKK terrorists, including 9 in the Gara region and 5 in that of Hakurk. » The Turkish government reaffirms its determination to eradicate terrorism at its source.
PKK terrorists often use northern Iraq as a base to prepare attacks against Turkey. To counter these threats, Turkey has launched three major military operations since 2016, notably in northern Syria, with the aim of preventing the formation of a terrorist corridor.
These interventions include Operation Euphrates Shield in 2016, Olive Branch in 2018, and Spring of Peace in 2019. These actions are part of a fight against the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union. This group has caused the deaths of more than 40,000 people over the past decades, affecting many innocent lives.
