(Keystone-ATS) The Israeli army indicated that 50 projectiles were fired overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday at northern Israel from Lebanon, where it is opposed to pro-Iranian Hezbollah. “Some projectiles were intercepted,” she said without mentioning any casualties.

Hezbollah, for its part, claimed to have fired “a large salvo of missiles” towards the Israeli town of Safed. This is the third time in less than two days that the Islamist movement has attacked this city in northern Israel. He also said he had launched “missile salvos” against Israeli artillery positions in Dalton and Dishon (north-east).

After nearly a year of border fire exchanges with Hezbollah and after having weakened Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israel moved the front of the war to Lebanon in mid-September, claiming to want to distance Hezbollah from the Israeli-Lebanese border and put an end to its rocket attacks, in order to allow the return to northern Israel of some 60,000 displaced inhabitants.

Lebanese authorities announced Tuesday that 41 people had died the day before across the country. At least 1,356 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of massive bombings on September 23, according to an AFP count based on official data. The UN has recorded nearly 700,000 displaced people.
